Why We Don't Use Clasps Print E-mail

Making high power therapeutic magnetic jewelry has been a family business for over 15 years.  When we first began making jewelry, we made all of our products using wire cording and a magnetic clasp.  While we found customers loved our bracelets, anklets and necklaces, many of our customers reported losing them.  We figured out that jewelry made with wire and a magnetic clasp were problematic for two reasons.

First, wire rusts.  We found even when using "stainless steel" wire, if you wear your magnetic jewelry in the bath or shower, in the pool, or even just while you wash your hands, after a short time the wire begins to rust.  If you perspire while wearing the jewelry, this greatly accelerates the process.  Once rust begins, it continues weakening the wire core of the product until it breaks.

Secondly, the magnetic clasp itself is prone to attaching itself to anything made of (ferrous) metal.  Often times, the magnetic clasp will attach to an object without you even realizing it, and when you move away from the object the bracelet stays attached to that item and pulls off your body.  We are constantly told stories of bracelets attaching to everything from cars, filing cabinets, tables, store shelves, even riding lawn mowers, only to be found months or years later.  However, many more seemingly just vanish, never to be found.

We needed to find a solution that would allow our customers to wear their magnetic jewelry all the time without worrying about it rusting or staying stuck to the lawn mower.  Finally, we found one.  We use a high grade elastic cording that is extremely durable, yet will not rust.  (No, it is not fishing line.)  Using this cording provides a second benefit as well.  Since our jewelry is a continuous piece with no breaks (unlike two ends with a clasp), even if your bracelet sticks to the filing cabinet as you pull your arm away, the bracelet moves with you rather than staying stuck.

So how long will this cording last?  We have many customers who have been wearing our jewelry made with this cording for over 8 years, and they wear it 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  They sleep, shower, swim, even sweat in it.

It's our goal to make magnetic jewelry that is attractive enough that you will want to wear it all the time and durable enough that you can.  We hope that you will agree we have reached that goal.
